Henneko: The "Hentai" Prince and the Stone Cat - Review

Yes, I might never finish that visual novel I was playing, but that's okay because so far barely anyone reads my blogs.

Henneko: The "Hentai" Prince and The Stone Cat is a cute little anime that I enjoyed, for the most part.

Here's a pv (promotional video):

Now, I'm not going to make this super long like usual but I will give you the lowdown on the show.
But first things first, I'm going to rant a little bit: What's up with the title? On crunchyroll it's translated as Henneko: The "Hentai" prince and Stoney cat. In Japanese: hentai ouji to warawanai neko. Warawanai does not mean Stoney, and stoney isn't even a word. Literally translated the title says: The "Hentai" prince and the cat which didn't smile.(which totally makes more sense because warate means to smile or to laugh in Japanese, nai being the character which would make it negative to be perfectly translated as Warawanai, or I didn't laugh/ not smiling. Which makes SOOOO much more sense because of the characters and the entire story-line, but we're not learning Japanese here.)

変質者(pronounced as Hentai): Japanese word for pervert

Despite this show's protagonist being a "pervert" there isn't any actual Hentai or Ecchi (Dirty, like in a perverted or sensual way) scenes in this anime. That is to say, I was surprised at how light hearted it was.

The show Starts with our main protagonist Yoto Yokodera (yes, his name kinda rhymes with itself), who is a pervert, meaning he watches porn, has hugging pillows, and has hot chick magazine, which, I have no doubt, most guys have. Anyways he Loves bathing suits and so he joins the track club to get a constant glimpse of the girls using the indoor pool for their swimming club. He does continuous squats in front of the window as to not get caught, but then one day the captain of the track team says He's going to be the next captain for his devotion to the club. Unable to tell the captain how he can't become the next captain he begins to hate himself for always having his facade.
Then his best friend, who was also a pervert, gives Yoto all his porn mag's and stuff saying that he prayed to the Cat god of the stone cat statue on this hill in town. Trading in his hugging pillow in exchange for being a pervert he wished for world peace, and then became a missionary and started helping out homeless people and all that good stuff. Legend has it you pray to the stone cat statue, and it'll grant you're wish, taking it and giving it to someone who needs it.
Inspired by his friend, Yoto goes to the hill with his hugging pillow to pray to the cat god. When he gets there he meets Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi (Try saying it ten times fast, I Dare you.) A girl with a bag full of hot buns (I forgot if they were filled with meat or beans) wanting to pray to the cat god to remove her expressions, because she claims they are childish and get in the way.
They pray to the cat god and suddenly Yoto's belt is gone along with one of Tsukiko's buns. Thinking nothing of it they leave only to find out the next day that Yoto no longer has a facade to keep everyone from knowing he's a total perv, and Tsukiko can no longer express emotion.
They start to look for whom ever has Yoto's facade and tsukiko's emotion, and end up on an adventure together.

I had a lot of fun with this anime and finished it off in about two days. It was cute, and unlike most harem anime's where the protagonist has more than one girl to choose from, This one surprised me with it's end.

*SPOILER ALERT*
So, The ending was nice, Yoto fell in love with Tsukiko, and they actually kiss in the end. I was really surprised they didn't have an open ending like most harem anime's. [Most harem anime's (anime's where the main character is a boy and most of the surrounding characters are girls and are all love interests) usually have open endings (endings where the protagonist can seemingly choose whichever character he wants in the end. There are some open endings that are so open they seem like the protagonist can get away with dating them all) the fact that Henneko didn't have the open ending problem (which by the way is totally deceitful) was a huge positive for my par]

But quite frankly, I also didn't like the ending in the fact that they ended off with a gag. It's not the fact that they ended it with the classic line "Through and through you're a real Hentai-san aren't you?", it was more the way they delivered it. Personally, I felt like they could've had the scene come out nicer.
So, here's how the scene went:
The two are in a Ferris wheel seat thing, and they're talking, Yoto smoothly sits next to her and feeds her what he thinks is a suave line. She's not all that amused. then all of a sudden a rabbit pops up on window out of no where scaring the two half dead. They tumble on the floor of the ferris wheel cart thing and he's on top of her, classic misunderstood-accident-it's-hard-to-explain-but-it's-not-what-it-looks-like-situation. From under Yoto, Tsukiko, then cathes his attention, and they end off with a close up of tsukiko as she delivers the line "I was always aware of this sempai, but, Through and through you're a real Hentai-san aren't you?"
end anime
Yes, this is a picture of the last scene. We end off on this. Well, I mean i guess that's not bad, but it could've been better.

[sempai= senior, upperclassman]

See, I just feel like the gag just wasn't delivered well enough for the end of this anime in particular. I just felt like the ending didn't do the entire anime justice. So I'll show you what I was thinking.
How I would have ended it:
The two are in a ferris wheel seat thing, and they're talking, Yoto smoothly sits next to her and feeds her what he thinks is a suave line. She's not all that amused. then all of a sudden a rabbit pops up on window out of no where scaring the two half dead. They tumble on the floor of the ferris wheel cart thing and he's on top of her, classic misunderstood-accident-it's-hard-to-explain-but-it's-not-what-it-looks-like-situation. From under Yoto, Tsukiko, then cathes his attention, and and then a close up of tsukiko as she delivers the line "I was always aware of this sempai, but, Through and through you're a real-"
Then Yoto would come in closer as he cuts her off saying something along the lines of "a real hentai-san, right?" and close the anime with a kiss.
And that's it! And i ended up making it super long again....

Haiyore Nyarko-san W

As you can see, I am still not done with the otome-game I was going to review. (it turned out to be really long actually, but I may or may not be done with it by next week, so no worries!....maybe)
Anyways, upon reminiscing on Haiyore Nyarko-san, I decided to finally finish the second season. so here goes.

Haiyore Nyarko-san W is the continuation of it's first season Haiyore Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos, which in turn is the full anime version of the short ONA (2-5 minute short show ex:Hetalia) Haiyore Nyarko-san.
The show is a bout a boy Yasata Mahiro who is one day out of no where being attacked by alien monster things who wanted him for human trafficking and is saved by Nyarko who is a Nyarlathotep and a deity that is part of a said space organization currently protecting earth.

Nyarko is in love with Mahiro who is an extreme tsundre, but then Nyarko's "friends" you could say come into the picture, and there you have the show.

Characters!
The characters in this show are to die for, well I'm just totally bias but, Yes this show is one of my top favorites. (which, just in case you're wondering are: Skip Beat, Ao No Exorcist,The World God Only Knows, and Haiyore Nyarko, so far. I need to organize my thoughts though.)

First thing first we have our main character Mahiro! (mahiro-san, Yasaka-kun)He is a bit of a tsundre, by a bit I mean he is a major tsundre, and is the main target of our awkward and a bit strange "harem"...almost. He uses forks as his weapon against Nyarko, and the others and is the main target of all of Nyarko's infatuation, ... except for Japanese entertainment that is. He houses nearly all of our characters and has the most common sense you can say.

Next we have our,...most important character you can say (just cause the title's named after her) Nyarko. Nyarko works for the planetary defense organization to protect earth from criminal aliens, and the like. She is spunky, crazy, violent, adorable, and downright perverted. She always tries a new and creative way to seduce Mahiro whom is ever so tsundre. I'm totally all in it for her, and thats mainly because when I watched this show I saw Nyarko say so many things that I myself had said once or twice before. She's hysterical and in my opinion, absolutely genius.

Next Up is Kuuko, The Living Flame. She is also a deity alien like Nyarko, however the two are sworn enemies. Or at least their supposed to be, but Kuuko is madly obsessed with Nyarko and Loves her. In later episodes though, she takes a liking to Mahiro whom she calls boy (literally, she calls him "shounen" which in literal translation means boy), saying she can fit up to four people in a relationship but only up to four. So the rest of the show she's in love with both Nyarko and Mahiro you can say.
Not long after Kuuko's appearance, Hasuta,"the unspeakable one", comes along. At first Mahiro gets the impression Hasuta is a girl, since he has long hair and is cutesy like a girl, but he's a boy. And Hasuta likes Mahiro as well. Hasuta is very cutesy and we can say he has the most common sense out of all the deity aliens, but despite his cutesy look, he's one of the strongest. Hasuta evidentially, is so strong he used to always stop the constant fights between Kuuko and Nyarko back in space kindergarten.

At school we have Mahiro's two friends: the walking speaker (whose actual name I've forgotten) and Yoichi (whom I like to call "zero flag man")

Walking speaker: she's called such cause she likes to avidly collect gossip and news throughout the school yard.
Yoichi here, is seen mostly as Mahiro's right hand man, you can say.

Of Course there are adults in this show, one of them being Mahiro's very own mother Yoriko. She is actually an alien criminal hunter herself and has what she calls a "sononium" where she has to charge up on hugs from her son in order not to loose her strength. She also has a knack for using forks as a weapon.

Now we know where Mahiro gets it From...

Lastly there's Shanta-kun, Nyarko's pet, whom at first we think is a boy, but hey, we thought hasuta was a girl now didn't we?
Shanta-kun takes three different forms, That I like to call: Badass form, human form, and normal form.
Firstly Badass form:
In Badass form shanta-kun can turn into a huge dragon thing, but he sucks at fighting so he's only used for transportation in this form.
Human Form:
In human form shanta-kun is a girl, this is only for a single episode though.
 Normal Form:
Apparently Shanta-kun is very cute, and according to Nyarko, is the reason she has him, her?...

And lastly, the ultimate reason I loved this show was because of all the parodies. In This show Parodies come in Layers and are really hard to get unless you've seen the actual show and know the reference. Well then again this goes for most parodies.
Here are some more obvious ones:

Shanta-kun first appears when Nyarko throws her poke-ball saying "Shanta-kun, I choose you",  in a later episode Nyarko attempts to put Shanta-kun back in the poke-ball.

I was quite surprised they had a reference to Castaway in here, seeing that it's an american Movie, but there's wilson.

All in all I enjoyed the second season as much as I did the first and Hope/Pray there be a third season, because I'm about to re-watch the whole thing It's s good. Then again I do seem to be fond of a lot of the shows from TV-TOKYO...
Anywho, That's this weeks blog, And so I leave you with that.

P.S.
I've been seriously thinking about having a schedule for this blog. Like how Youtube is having Geek Week and that one television channel is having shark week....I don't watch t.v., not from america at least, well, not really, not unless it's cartoon network or something. Anyways, Yeah, I'll get back to all of you about that...(although no body reads my blogs.....) but whatever right?

Dating Agency Cyrano...(finally)

I am so sorry I didn't finish this drama sooner, I've been meaning to get to it for the past week and a half or so. It's terrible because I literally had only the last episode to finish and that's it.
In respects to that, I had oodles of fun with Dating Agency Cyrano. It was perfectly set up, wrapped, and filled with enticing drama, cute romance and comedy scenes that left me close to death.

The Drama starts off with our protagonist Gong min young following a match she made on her own, against her match-making company's rules. The date and confession turn into a failure as the woman who her client likes, confesses to a waiter in the restaurant. When I saw this I was completely thrown off, it just felt so random to me, but the rest of the episode got me beck on track.
Anyways, after doing that our protagonist Gong min young ends up walking around in her sadness that her plan failed. Whilst walking around she gets hit in the back of the head by the door of a black van.
When she wakes up she's in Cyrano Theater where she's offered a job at, you guessed it, Cyrano Dating Agency.
Cyrano Agency is unlike any other dating or matchmaking agency in the business. In a good way that is. The way it works is you tell Cyrano who it is you want to love you, and they hunt them down (almost like a 007 mission impossible thing) and set up scenarios that lead that person into falling in love with you. (It's Truly genius)
She ends up taking up the job offer and this is where our drama is set.

The Characters in this version of Cyrano (2013) Are Gong min young (formally known as gong stone), Do ah Rang, Moo Jin, Il Rok, and Master (Seung Pyo), the clients aren't really that important to the overall story development and ending.

Our Main Character is Gong Min Young, a girl who firmly believes what ties all humans together is a longing for romance of some sort. she's very cutesy and down-right adorable in every episode.

Then there's Il Rok otherwise known as Seobyung by our ever so lovely protagonist. He is the boss at Cyrano and coincidentally falls in love with Gong Stone in the end, but has some problem with his dead friend and his first love that I'm not gonna tell you about because I'm not a spoiler.

There's Master or Seung Pyo, who owns the restaurant across from Cyrano and coincidentally also loves Gong stone. Not to mention he is the ex-head of some kind of Korean yakuza, gang thing...

Do Ah Rang who is a worker at Cyrano as well as a high school student. He falls in love after a confession, but he loses the girl he likes, :( Well, we get a hint at a new love interest by the end though.

Finally we have Moo Jin, whom reminds me of Mori from OHSHC,.... In other words, he doesn't talk much. Well, not for  a good two thirds of the drama, all of a sudden he starts speaking, and a lot for someone who never speaks. He is characterized as a pretty boy, (because he has pale skin...I didn't really get how that made him a pretty boy but that's what they said in the drama) He rides a wicked motorcycle and he likes this girl who works at Masters restaurant.

This Drama was ah-mazing a deserves a score of 20 outta 10.
I don't want to spoil the ending, but the ending always matters to me. If something is amazing but has a crappy ending it usually changes my point of view on it as a whole. Dating Agency Cyrano had a fantastical ending that made my inner fan-girl come out. Which is really rare in Drama's, the only other drama capable of making me fan-girl like that so far has been Secret Garden, (which by the way is awesome, and if you haven't seen it you should, cause when do you'll be saying: "How was i wasting my life like that before i saw this?") But I'm totally bias,so it could just be me.

*PREVIEW*
I'm trying a new otome game, I'll get back to you when I finish it ;)

Nail Shop Paris (Review)

Nail Shop Paris is a vividly short Korean drama with only ten remarkable episodes that were much more than I expected.

This Korean Drama revolves around Hong Yeo Joo a fantasy novelist who has a bit of an obsession with Gumiho's. (nine tail foxes; they tend to be rather popular in Asia as vampires are in the U.S., *cough cough* Twilight) But we can't blame her, after all Yeo Joo was once saved by a Gumiho when she was lost in the mountains as a child.

After getting her first novel rejected because it was too similar to Twilight, she roams around helplessly for inspiration and ends up at a train station, which is where she first see's Alex, a kind-hearted man who helps the police catch some random act of crime and coincidentally catches Yeo Joo's eye. So she follows him to see that he works at a place called, you guessed it, Nail Shop Paris. At Paris only male nail artists are allowed to work there so, in order to hunt down and find out everything possible about Alex, she cuts her hair and cross dresses as a boy in order to get a job there.
At Paris she meets Alex, whom she had been stalking, Kay, who you presume hates her, and Jin, your all around class clown nice guy, not to mention The boss at Paris Guem Mi Rye, whom all rename our main character as Bunny. Here at Paris they're always trying to help people out whilst keeping their nails in tippy top shop. (although i will admit, i disliked a lot of the nail styles cause they all had that really pointy tip, and nails like these remind me of classic evil villains from snow white and other old movies)

Bunny lives with her best friend Ji Soo and writes her novel basically on her life, but with a lot more thrilling suspense and cunning edge fantasy, and that's where our story begins.

*SPOILER ALERT*
A lot of the drama in this drama is from the fact that Bunny is in fact a girl, and she likes Alex while Kay likes her, and then she has her conspiracy where she thinks the Boss is a Gumiho. I won't be a total spoiler and spoil the end for you guys, but Here's a hint to get you interested: Bunny's novel, is actually a lot closer to the reality of her life than she ever imagined.

Not to worry, there is more, Jin and Ji Soo have their own little romance going on, not to mention a little bit of drama going on here as well.

The ending really had me going for a loop,I'm not going to tell you how it ends, or what happens, but it was really not what i expected, but, in a good way. I enjoyed the ending a lot and can say with courage that even though this drama was fairly short compared to others in the fact that this one was only ten episodes( Most Asian dramas can very from 10-25 episodes per season. Nail Shop Paris only has one season), it didn't feel rushed at all. As a matter of fact I enjoyed the pace it went at. Each episode made me want to watch the next, and nothing was dragged (like a lot of drama's tend to do). What made me especially happy was the fact that the ending was good, and it didn't feel like it was just sloppily ended due to budget cuts or something. Although I personally abhor time flash endings, this drama pulled it off wonderfully and has honestly won my heart.

Nail Shop Paris is a good drama to watch its nice, short, straight to the point, and not rushed. It stays true to its genre as a rom-com and the drama adds a touch of feel and suspense to make you watch more, I recommend it!

Anyways, if you did watch this drama, or do watch it in the future, comment below your opinion, tell me if there's anything I missed, and yes, I allow you to fan girl in the comments as well. Until Next week!
*SPOILER ALERT*
Next week's review will be on Cyrano!

The Royal Trap (Review)

The Royal Trap is a visual novel produced by Hanako Games that takes you through an adventure of romance, mystery, thrill, and juicy secret drama with every new and exciting chapter. Now, I personally am not a stickler for Otome games (Dating simulation games where the girl pursues the guy) or visual novel's (games that have a set up story line you follow i which the few choices you make alter your ending) the reason being, because I tend to over-think each step and always end up losing my life or having a bad ending, however in this specific visual novel I was able to get two happy endings and one normal ending.
In This game you play as the witty Madeline Valois, attendant, valet, and companion to Oscar prince of Oceandawyr. Your job all your life has been to protect, train, and groom him into being the perfect prince suitable for marriage with a princess...the only problem is he happens to have fallen in love with you. The two of you attend the giant celebration birthday party of Princess Cassidy, and meet Prince Gaston, Nazagi, and Callum as well as the not so charming duke Pherod, and the servant girl Dolores. Then all of a sudden the princess goes missing, this is where the real story begins and where the demo game ends.
I played for Oscar, Nazagi, and Callum, however if you do get the game in full you have an option to play for Dolores, Gaston, Nazagi, Callum, and Oscar. The only reason I only played for these three is simply because i enjoyed the looks and the effort of artwork put into these characters, as well as the characters themselves.
You can watch the preview here:
As far as the over all artwork the backgrounds, especially outside the castle are kind of Derpy, but other than that the artwork is done well, especially for the end scenes. I also appreciated how the story-line itself slightly changed with the different person you decided to pursue.

*SPOILER ALERT*
The endings I got were pretty good, as far as the game goes, each route was fairly long and interesting as well.
The first prince I pursued was of course Oscar, his route compared to the others was the shortest and didn't really pry into the mystery of princess Cassidy at all. You end happily with an estate in Gwellinor a small fair of money and you propose to Oscar and the two of you get married:Happy end.
The second prince I chose to pursue was prince Nazagi. With his ending you find out that the "dead" last prince Caspian is actually princess Cassidy, there are a lot of potions involved in this one and Nazagi flirts with you in the most awkward of ways, however in the end, for a Happy End at least, he agree's to publicly marry Caspian/Cassidy in order to preserve peace in the kingdom and you take up the task of becoming his mistress and continuing the royal line.
Lastly I attempted to pursue prince Callum but only got a normal end :(. With Prince Callum you two get married, you enter into the royal family unscathed, you find out Caspian is Cassidy and the two of you inherit some of the kings power. What makes this a "normal end" and not a "happy end" is the fact that Oscar then looks down on you, claims bad things about what is now your kingdom and basically mopes bitterly over the fact that you got together with prince Callum and not him. Nonetheless the artwork is still great.

I greatly enjoyed the game in and of itself, well, for the most part.If you want the demo, there's for mac, PC, and Linux so, here's a link: http://www.hanakogames.com/royaltrap.shtml

The full game is only $19.95, probably has tax too...and if you don't have the money but still want the full version I'm not going to say whether to use a torrent search to find the full pre-cracked torrent download or not...*cough, wink, nudge* But seriously, if we want more foreign products to be translated and sold here in the U.S. modern day pirating is probably not a way to go...unless you don't care, if you don't care I'm not gonna judge.

Anyways, post a comment, grab a link, play a demo, or the full game. Tell me what you think.

An introduction to an unworthy otaku (me)

Hi, I am Natalie, and a self-proclaimed unworthy otaku. You may be thinking: "what does she mean by that?" well, by "unworthy" I mean to say that I do not and would not call myself an Otaku for 2 reasons: Reason 1, Otaku is a very mean word in Japanese meaning nerd, geek, or dweeb, and the idea of calling myself that is uncomfortable personally. Reason 2, even in the "good sense" of being an otaku in the western meaning of an anime and Japanese pop culture obsessed person, I feel like I am still unworthy to be called such a high level name. I mean, sure I can name 20 anime's excluding Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece in a matter of seconds but I still feel I am a complete novice.

So there you have why I am an unworthy otaku....
Well, another reason may be that I have a terrible habit of starting an anime and not finishing it because I don't want it to end, but I'm working on that, so there's no need to fear.
If you yourself are interested in any anime's/ manga's, or confused on Japanese word usage (ore, baka, otaku, etc.), what different genre's stand for and are, even vocaloid info you're confused on, let me know,  I am here to help, all whilst keeping you entertained.
